Excessive food waste and hunger is a problem that should and can be solved. As many of you know, there are millions of hungry families and food insecure people across the United States. At the same time, there's a great deal of food that goes to waste every single day in cities across this country. It is time to do something about it.

Over 44 million people in the United States are food insecure. 13 million being children. In New York alone, over 1.2 million people are facing hunger every day, approximately 600,000 being children, and the numbers are growing. Over 38% of all food supply goes to waste.
